Robert Stanley Davis Shooting New Jersey Obituary - Robert Stanley Davis Dies in Shot Fired near Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City: Police Say

Atlantic City authorities have confirmed the identity of the victim in a fatal shooting that occurred Thursday night, marking yet another tragic instance of gun violence in the city. The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office announced Saturday that 40-year-old Robert Stanley Davis of Atlantic City was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head outside the Shore Park Apartments.

At approximately 8:53 p.m. on Thursday evening, Atlantic City police responded to a 911 call reporting a man lying motionless on the sidewalk near 225 North Virginia Avenue. The address is just a short distance—roughly half a mile—from the bustling Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Officers who arrived at the scene discovered Davis unresponsive, suffering from what appeared to be a critical head injury caused by gunfire. Despite efforts by first responders, Davis was pronounced dead at the scene shortly afterward.

An autopsy conducted later confirmed what police suspected at the scene—the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head. The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office has since classified the case as a homicide and has launched an intensive investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Details remain limited as investigators work to piece together what led to the violent encounter. Authorities have not released any information regarding potential suspects or motives at this time. Surveillance footage from nearby apartment buildings and businesses is being reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation, and detectives have been canvassing the area for witnesses.

The Shore Park Apartments, where the shooting took place, sit in a residential section of Atlantic City that has seen both revitalization efforts and continued struggles with crime. For residents and community members, the tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the persistent gun violence plaguing parts of the city.

Robert Stanley Davis was a longtime Atlantic City resident, remembered by family and friends as a quiet man who mostly kept to himself. While his personal life remained largely private, those who knew him say he was not someone they expected to be the victim of such violence. Friends have begun placing candles and flowers at the location where Davis was found, creating a makeshift memorial to honor his life.

Davis’s death marks another chapter in the troubling rise in shootings across Atlantic County, and law enforcement is urging the public to assist in any way they can. “Every piece of information helps,” an official from the Prosecutor’s Office stated. “If anyone saw anything that night, or has relevant knowledge, we strongly encourage them to reach out. It could be vital to solving this case.”

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office is asking anyone with information about the shooting or other serious crimes to contact their Major Crimes Unit at 609-909-7666. Anonymous tips are also welcome, and can be submitted through Crime Stoppers or the Prosecutor’s Office website.

In the wake of Davis’s death, community leaders are again calling for more resources to address the root causes of violence—such as poverty, lack of opportunities, and insufficient mental health services—and to support crime prevention programs in vulnerable neighborhoods.

As Atlantic City mourns the loss of another resident to senseless violence, the hope remains that justice will be served and that Davis’s death will not be in vain. His name now joins a growing list of lives lost too soon in a city grappling with the complex realities of urban crime and systemic challenges.
